“Aspiring” is a portrait series of people who have moved to Los Angeles from all over the country and world with the dreams of making it and becoming actors in the entertainment industry. This project takes a look into the home of these aspiring actors in the beginning of their careers. The homes where they submit auditions, practice lines, submit to castings and express themselves in. It’s a very romanticized idea to move to Hollywood to make it and I’m exploring the experience of each individual and what their journey looks like in their physical space.
Kirill and Filipp moved from Russia to L.A. in 2018 to pursue acting. They are both currently servers at a restaurant but have had success appearing in music videos and with other content creators and have an agent. Taken in October of 2019.
I photographed a variety of learning environments in Los Angeles for The New York Times Magazine’s annual education issue.
California’s 21st congressional district, a sweep of farmland from Bakersfield to Fresno that has become one of most contested districts in recent history. As California is going through an extreme drought, both sides agree that water is the most pressing issue here, but figuring out how to address this issue is what splits the parties. We spoke with farmers, congressman, and candidates to speak about how the drought is tied to politics in the Central Valley.

Gina moved from NYC to L.A. after having a career as a reporter for the NY Post and has been in Korea-Town since November of 2018. She’s currently bartending and working at a gym and is actively auditioning for cop and military roles that fit her personality. Taken in October of 2019.
California’s strategy is to house the large unsheltered population in the state by converting hotels into long-term housing. Ernie Guereca has been a resident at Casa Luna since April and comes from the community. Casa Luna is a converted hotel in El Sereno that offers housing and supportive services to Angelenos who once were unhoused in the community. Photographed for Politico.
Jose was injured while serving in Afghanistan and has become an advocate for psychedelics, like psilocybin, for therapeutic use. “I will not be told no on something that prevents human beings from killing themselves,” he said. Photographed for The New York Times.

Jon began his life in L.A. five years ago as a camera operator, after studying film production at NYU. After years behind the camera, he began acting professionally while continuing to write and direct his own projects. Clowning and improvisation classes have also been part of his practice here. He’s currently in post-production for his debut feature film, a dark teen melo-comedy following a doo-wop punk band from Nebraska.
Photo essay for Esquire Magazine photography portfolio titled, Main Street America. Seventeen photographers were sent out all across the country to document the city they live in during COVID-19 pandemic. I documented my city, Alhambra California, a largely Asian and Latino community which has both urban and suburban landscape and about seven miles East of Downtown Los Angeles.
